North Ribblesdale RFC
Roundhegians RFC
Ribb lost to a drop goal in the last ten minutes after a 22-10 half time lead, they had scored an early try from a pushover, extended the lead by a try by John Padley and further by a good try by Omari, but not for the first  time they got on the wrong side of the referee and in the dying minutes of the first half   had Padley sin binned and boosted the visitors by conceding a try immediately before half time  to have 22 10 lead at half time. The fourteen men battled to preserve the lead in the early first half and kept the score the same until Padley returned , but poor decision making saw Roundhegians chip away at Ribb's lead culminating in a very good try from the right winger with the conversion hitting the post a further soft try under the posts brought the sides level. Then with five minutes to go a drop goal put the visitors ahead for the first time in he match. Ribb had two kickable penalties in the last five minutes chose to go for the corner but were kept out by an invigorated Roundhegians .
A very spirited performance from Ribb who once again scored plenty of points but fell away at the end , they started well scoring in the first five minutes from a pushover, then a better organised spirited defence kept out defence kept out a very able Roundhegians backline, John Padley as outside centre and Will Booth were prominent. Will Booth also ruled the line out taking half a dozen of the visitors throw.Their first half was marred by Padley sin bin which led to a soft try from a wayward kick but Ribb were well in control at half time .
They tried to keep the ball away from the visitors backs in the second half having clear supremacy in the scrum and line out , but overdid their pick and drive , several times they gave away penalties after they overdid themselves with three or four drives they lost support leaving one isolated ball carrier , this was a feature of the whole half and led to regular penalties through the half.Ribb conceded so many penalties that they could not get out of their own half and although they were still dominant in the tight Roundhegians sorted their line out to provide possession for their talented backs,as is often the case sides with a good backline are quicker to the loose ball and while Ribbs midfield defence held out they got enough second pahse to engineer two tries one agem on the right.
The final five minutes were crucial , two successive penalties put Ribb into their twenty two, they worked the ball into the middle and Rounhegians ten dropped a neat goal to take a three point lead. Ribb had time to come back and got two penalties from a desperate defence , Mick Thwaites goal kicking would have at least drawn the match , but Ribb bravely went for the win, but lost the ball in the line out. They then had another chance, going for the corner again and won the ball ,but a fired up Roundhegians pack held them out for a win.
Good performance from Ribb, the Long brothers both had an impact ,Padley in the centre stiffened the defence and scored a good try. Will Booth ruled the line out , but they were just denied a deserved win. Winning teams seem to get lucky, teams on a losing streak do not, But this was a much improved performance and some more like this will see them climb the table.
